Favorite Red Lipsticks

There is nothing like a good red lipstick. Every girl needs that perfect red lip. Here are a few of my favorites.

1.) RAVISHING ROUGE (MAYBELLINE SUPER STAY 14HR LIPSTICK)- A cool tone bright matte red. Super pigmented and does last 14hrs. You might need to use a makeup remover to get it off. Because of its ability to last a long time it can get drying to definitely wear a lip balm under this.
RAVISHING ROUGE

2.)MOULIN ROUGE (MAKEUP FOREVER ROUGE ARTIST INTENSE LIPSTICK)- A vibrant red with a satin finish. This is my perfect red lipstick. It doesn't look too overwhelming and there is a hint of elegance when wearing it. Very saturated in color and doesn't feel overly dry on the lips.
MOULIN ROUGE

3.) F-BOMB (URBAN DECAY REVOLUTION LIPSTICK)- Classic "bad girl" red. This is basically the classic red lipstick our grandmothers wear but with a kick. A very sexy and edgy red perfect paired with a motorcycle jacket, dark jeans and combat boots. Very hydrating, long-lasting and super creamy.
F-BOMB

4.) SAIL LA VIE (MAC COSMETICS)- An orangey red with a satin finish. This is a very unique red with a twist. This is for those of you out there who want to be different and a bit bolder.
SAIL LA VIE

5.) RUBY WOO (MAC COSMETICS)- Vivid red with a blue undertone and a matte finish. Probably one of the best red lipsticks ever out there. This is what you would call a "little red riding hood" red. Really great for those of you will fair and light skin tones.

Favorite Dark Lipsticks

1.) REBEL By MAC- A mid-tone creamy plum color with a satin finish. This is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE LIPSTICKS hands down. It looks great on pretty much all skin tones. It is not as dark as it looks in the tube so it is very wearable.

2.) DIVA By MAC- Intense reddish-burgundy with a matte finish. This lipstick reminds me of the 1920s Flapper girls. A very classic and classy color. And the best part is unlike other matte lipsticks this one isn't drying at all and feels really nice on the lips.
DIVA

3.) FAULTLESSLY By MAC- Yes yes I know another MAC Lipstick. But they really have a great variety of dark lip colors compared to any other brands out there. Faultlessly is an amplified (very pigmented) dark purple. It has a semi-matte finish. This definitely isn't a lipstick most people would go for including myself. It is incredibly goth like dark. However if you just wear it on its own without any heavy eye makeup it can look pretty great. If you have either a really fair complexion or a really dark complexion I wouldn't recommend this one for you.
FAULTLESSLY

4.) VIOLETTA By MAC- A clean vibrant violent purple. This is for those of you out there who would like to be bolder by not super dark with their lips this fall. This is a really pretty purple that looks great on light to medium-tan skin tones. It has a cooler undertone and can give you the appearance of whiter teeth. Super fun lipstick overall. It doesn't go as dark as it looks in the tube but it is bright.
VIOLETTA

5.) THE QUEEN'S KISS By L'Oreal - A light satin finish burgundy, cranberry purple. This was a limited edition lipstick awhile back but can still be purchased online. It is super moisturizing and feels great on the lips. The color pigmentation is very nice but not to overwhelming. This is perfect for those of you who want to experiment with darker lip colors but not go overboard.
THE QUEEN'S KISS

6.) RAISE THE BAR By Bare Minerals- A pearl plum color. This lipstick is part of Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Line. This line of lipsticks are incredibly moisturizing and also contains Vitamins A, C, and E that help deliver antioxidants. So not only you will look good but will also do good for your lips.
RAISE THE BAR

7.) SUGAR PLUM FAIRY By Wet n Wild- A semi matte fuchsia with a dark burgundy undertone. Again this is a great color for those who want to experiment with dark colors but not super dark. Wet n Wild lipsticks are very affordable and great quality. They are EXTREMELY pigmented so a little goes a long way. They can get a bit drying on your lips but as long as you have a lip balm under it you will be fine.

GOBBLE GOBBLE: After Thanksgiving

As much as we all love Thanksgiving food leftovers can be a drag especially if they drag out for days. So this year let's skip the dry and old turkey sandwiches.

Recipe #1 Stuffing Croquettes- Great for left over stuffing, bread crumbs, and mashed potatoes

1.) In a bowl put your stuffing, bread crumbs and mashed potatoes

2.) Add a dash of Italian seasoning, hot pepper flakes (optional), white pepper and mix well

3.) In a separate bowl crack an egg and beat it till smooth, in another bowl pour your bread crumbs

4.) Form the stuffing mixture into a small patty, dip in egg, then in the bread crumbs

5.) In a frying pan put an inch of canola or vegetable oil (NO OLIVE OIL)

6.) Fry 3-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown

Cool and Enjoy

Recipe #2 Turkey Cranberry Salad- Great for left over Turkey, cranberries, and lettuce

1.) With whatever turkey you have shred and heat up

2.) In a large bowl use whatever assorted greens you have on hand (I recommend a baby lettuce blend with spinach and arugula), cherry tomatoes, and cucumber

3.) Add your turkey and cranberries and tosh the salad

4.) Use either a balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing or a poppy seed dressing

Recipe #3 Turkey Panini- Great for left over Turkey, cranberry sauve and gravy

1.) Slice your turkey

2.) Take a piece of bread (Any type)

3.) Spread butter on one side and chiptole mayo (you can buy this pre-made at your local grocery store)

4.) Layer turkey, cranberry sauce and gravy (Add tomatoes if you have any and a slice of cheese)

5.) Put the other slice of bread on top and butter the top

6.) Put in a panini grill or in a sauce pan with a bit of butter and olive oil and then put another heavy pan on top of the sandwich

7.) Grill for 2 minutes

Recipe #4: Cream of Turkey Vegetable Noodle Soup- Great for leftover Turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and gravy

1.) In a soup pot saute with olive oil and a tablespoon of butter an onion and 2 cloves of garlic along with any left over vegetables you have lying around

2.) Saute until the onion is translucent and the vegetables are tender

3.) Shred your turkey and add it into the pot along with gravy

4.) Add enough chicken broth till it covers your ingredients

5.) Add your noodles (Egg noodles work great in this)

6.) Add some mashed potatoes to thicken the soup

7.) Bring to a boil and let it simmer on medium low for about 15 minutes

Serve with some saltines or french bread :D

Recipe #5 Pumpkin Brownies- Great for leftover canned pumpkin

1.) Take any brownie recipe you like and instead of using oil and fat just add one can of canned pumpkin.

2.) You don't have to change any of the baking time just follow your recipe the pumpkin replaces all that fat so not only it will taste good it is also good for you :)

You can also add chocolate chips and nuts

GOBBLE GOBBLE: Mashed Sweet Potatoes

For those of you who love sweet potatoes out there then this is the recipe for you. This is inspired by my mom's recipe. I just tweaked it up a bit.

What you will need: (Feeds 6-8 people)

1 LB of Sweet Potatoes

1-2 Cups of Dark (packed) Brown Sugar- you won't need all of this just depends on your sweetness level

1 Tablespoon of Ground Cinnamon

1 Tablespoon of Vanilla Extract

1 Teaspoon of Maple Extract (You can substitute for maple syrup but the flavor of the extract is more concentrated)

1 package of Mini Marshmallows

1 Teaspoon of Salt

1 stick of Unsalted Butter

How To Make:

1.) Butter a square baking dish and Preheat your oven to 350 Degrees

2.) Peel and boil your sweet potatoes until fork tender then in a separate bowl mash until smooth

3.) Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, maple extract, and 3 tablespoons of butter

4.) Put into your buttered baking dish and top the mixture with the mini marshmallows.

5.) Bake 5-10 minutes until the marshmallows are golden brown (Keep an eye on this it can burn)

Take out and enjoy!!!

Naked Again?!?!

The wait is over. Urban Decay's Naked 3 is finally here.

Each Naked palette contains 12 eyeshadows neutral colors. The first Naked palette contains neutral eyeshadows with warm undertones. The second Naked palette has neutral eyeshadows with cool tones. And the newest addition to the family the Naked 3 has neutral eyeshadows with rosy and pink undertones. Unlike the first two palettes which has repeats of the colors all the eyeshadows in the Naked 3 are all brand new colors. The palette also comes with a duo ended synthetic brush. One side a flat shader for applying the color all over the lid and the other side a dome shape brush great for blending. Urban Decay Cosmetics and Brushes are all cruelty free.

Perfect Palette Tag

Best Packaging: THE BALM NUDE'TUDE
Pretty much all of the palettes from The Balm have great packaging. Not only sturdy but their designs for their palettes are very creative like this one for example.

Best Color Payoff: LORAC PRO PALETTE
Pretty much every single color in this palette is very well pigmented. There isn't even one eyeshadow that is slightly off with pigmentation. All very consistent.

Most Versatile: URBAN DECAY NAKED BASICS
When you first look at it it may not be anything however this little 6 eyeshadow palette has so many uses. All the colors in this palette are essential for everyday eye looks. The champagne and beige colors are great not only for an all over the lid color but can also be used to highlight under the brow bone, inner corner and even on parts of your face. There are 2 matte browns in here that are great for transition colors, blending, and defining the crease. And of course every palette needs a matte black. Not only used to create darker looks but can also be used as eyeliner. This little palette is great to use on its own for an everyday wearable look or used along with other eyeshadows to create even more fabulous looks.

Best for Travel: TOO FACED NAKED EYE PALETTE
Not only the colors are very wearable but included in this palette are 3 little notecards that give you 3 different makeup looks. Just the right amount to eyeshadows that can create dozens of looks. The packaging it small enough so it doesn't take up too much room in your luggage and can be put on a carry-on bag.

Biggest Regret: TARTE TRUE BLOOD BOX PALETTE
As much as I love the show True Blood, this palette not so much. The colors in it aren't really anything special and compared to other Tarte eyeshadow palettes these eyeshadows were a little too powdery and chalky looking on the eye. Plus the eyeliner they included was terrible. Tarte makes some pretty great products but this one wasn't one of them. (NO LONGER AVAILABLE)

Best Color Names: TOO FACED JERROD & MARY'S DELUXE CHRISTMAS PALETTE
Too Faced always has really cute names for their eyeshadows and unlike some other brands their cute names actually match with the color of the eyeshadow.

Least Used: DIOR 5 COULEURS IN MITZAH
This is a pretty expensive palette to be the least used I know... And I do love the colors in this palette however I just don't reach for it very often. I'm not a huge fan of Dior eyeshadows. Their pigmentation is very inconsistent. (NO LONGER AVAILABLE)

Most Used: URBAN DECAY NAKED PALETTE
Since I got this palette I pretty much used it in about every makeup look I do. All the neutral colors one will ever need. It has a nice combination of mattes, shimmers and satin finish eyeshadows. And since all the colors have very warm undertones it works on pretty much all skin types and eye colors.

GOBBLE GOBBLE: Cranberry Orange Sauce

Cranberry sauce is one of those dishes at Thanksgiving that can either be a hit or miss. Not a lot of people tend to reach for it or eat much of it. A big reason for that is usually we buy it in canned form and that definitely ruin the taste. However if you make this recipe I promise you there will be no hesitations and your friends and family will be begging for more!

What You Will Need: (Feeds 6-8 people)

1 LB of Fresh Cranberries

2 Cups of Water

1 Cup of Granulated Sugar (Please no cane, raw or brown sugar it will change the consistency)

1 Medium Size Orange

2 Tablespoons of Clover Honey (If you can't find clover honey try to find a floral flavored honey or agave syrup)

How To Make:

1.) In a large sauce pot on high heat put in your cranberries along with the water, sugar, the juice from one orange and the peel of the orange.

2.) Bring to a boil and turn the heat to medium-low

3.) Add your honey and stir

4.) Boil for 10-15 minutes

5.) Take out the orange peels and ENJOY

Garnish: If you have another orange on hand take a small peeler and make thin strips using the peel of the orange and put on top of the sauce right before serving along with a sprig of mint

GOBBLE GOBBLE: Garlic Ranch Mashed Potatoes

Hello again! Here is my recipe for the traditional mashed potatoes with a twist. I promise you this will be a crowd pleaser.

What You Will Need: (This recipe feeds about 6-8 people depends on how much you love mashed potatoes)

1 Package of Powder Ranch Dressing (DO NOT USE THE LIQUID DRESSING)

1/2 Pound of Yukon Gold Potatoes (Russet Potatoes will also work if you can't get Yukon, Yukon potatoes are more buttery and creamery)

1 Pint of Heavy Cream

1 Cup of Whole Milk (PLEASE DO NOT USE LOWFAT, SKIM ANY SORT OF "DIET" MILK IT WILL NOT TASTE THE SAME TRUST ME)

1 Stick of unsalted butter

1 whole bulb of garlic

1 small container or sour cream (about 8oz.)

Salt and Black Pepper to taste

How To Make:
1.) Wash and peel your potatoes

2.) Boil your potatoes until fork tender (poke a fork and if it goes through and comes out clean your potatoes are done, do no overcook or undercook)

3.) While the potatoes are boiling wrap your garlic bulb in foil with some olive oil. Broil @ 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes until the garlic is soft. Keep an eye on this

4.) In a sauce pan melt your stick of butter and add the milk. DO NOT BOIL you just want to warm up the milk and melt the butter

5.) Take your potatoes and mash them into chunks

6.) Add your desired amount of garlic

7.) Add the entire packet of powdered ranch dressing, milk and butter mixture (You do not need to add all the milk and butter, depends on how smooth you want it)

8.) Mix and Stir

9.) Add the heavy cream (Add only to your desire consistency) and sour cream (must have!!!!)

10.) Taste and add salt and pepper if desired

ENJOY!!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING :D

Skincare Routine: FALL/WINTER 2013

Doesn't matter if you are a man or woman taking care of your skin is one of the greatest things you can do for yourself. There are 3 main factors that affect how your skin looks and feels.

1.) Genetics: Family history is crucial when it comes to any medical history even with skin. If your parents and grandparents have great skin chances are you will be blessed with great skin and vice versa with bad skin as well.

2.) Diet and Exercise: What you eat affects every aspect of your body even the skin. Eating a balanced diet that is mostly plant based with just the right amount of protein can keep your hormones in balance therefore keeping your skin in check. Also don't forget to stay hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Exercising not only keeps you physically fit but keeps your organs working better therefore your body in check.

3.) And last but not least the products we use... From the cosmetics we put on our face to the skincare products we use.

Genetics is something we cannot control. Eating a balanced diet is and is something everyone should do irregardless. The products we use on ourselves tends to be a little tricky since all products work differently on everyone.

I have dry, sensitive, acne prone skin that sometimes can get oily with environmental changes. As you can see this can cause a lot of problems. Genetics wise I wasn't very fortunate in the skin factor. My mom herself has great skin and so does her mom and dad. However the rest of her family is very mixed. A lot of my cousins on her side have acne prone, dry skin. On my dad's side and on my dad himself have oily acne prone skin. So for me this was something unavoidable. My sister also has issues with acne and my brother well let's just say he is the lucky one inheriting my mom's skin. He is still young so who knows.

My diet has always been a little off due to my health. I have gone through pretty much every diet medical and non medical out there. Same with exercise. In middle school and high school I was a sports maniac. I did everything from dance to tennis to soccer. Doing all these sports along with my health has resulted in some injuries over the years so my workouts haven't been as frequent or effective.

Now when it comes to my skincare I have tried so many products in my life and right now I think I have finally gotten it down. I do tend to change up my skin routine here and there. Keep in mind that this routine is designed for dry, sensitive, acne prone skin. And what may work for me doesn't mean it will necessarily work for you, but hopefully you guys will take away some tips and tricks.

MORNING ROUTINE:
I wake up every morning using my Clean and Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Facial Cleanser. I did a review on this product not too long ago on this blog so go check it out for more information. This is a really nice and simple cleanser. It has little beads in it that burst once it hits the water making my skin feeling clean and refreshed. It doesn't make my skin feel dry at all throughout the day.

Next I use my Simple Moisturizer. It is a semi rich moisturizer that keeps my skin hydrated and also contains SPF 15. It is crucial to wear SPF everyday no matter what season it is. It not only prevents burns but also premature aging, sun spots, wrinkles and of course skin cancer.

And this is pretty much it for my morning skincare. I don't like to use so much stuff in the mornings and this keeps my skin in check throughout the day even with makeup on.

EVENING ROUTINE:
My evening routine however is very different and contains a lot more products. If I'm wearing makeup that day I will always take it off first with a makeup remover wipe. I don't have a specific brand I pretty much use whatever I get my hands on.

I then mix my Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser with Mario Badescu Glycolic Facial Cleanser. The Neutrogena one is very nice and calming good for evening uses in my opinion and the Mario Badescu one keeps my acne away and prevents any breakouts. Glycolic Acid is not for everyone especially on a daily basis so please be careful and consult with a physician if necessary.

After washing my face I use the Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent with a cotton pad. This just gets rid of any gunk leftover on my face and also prevents breakouts. It does contain alcohol so it can be a bit drying. Just make sure to use a good moisturizer after. I highly recommend using an astringent or toner no matter what type of skin you have.

Once the astringent drys I apply my Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil all over my face. This is a heavily nutrient pack oil that contains vitamins and minerals. It is very light weight on the skin and doesn't leave any greasy residue. This stuff is a miracle worker. It makes your skin so smooth and soft like a baby's bottom plus it also moisturizers and keeps acne in check. I tend to use oils only during the fall and winter.

After the oil drys I apply my Neutrogena Healthy Skin Eye cream. The skin around your eyes is extremely sensitive and fragile compared to the rest of your skin on your face and body. Doctors recommend to use an eye cream starting at the age 14. The trick is to take care early on so that when you do reach your 30s, 40s, and so on you don't have as many problems then. This eye cream is very affordable compared to the other ones out there today and works really well. However you must be consistent and try not to skip days otherwise you won't get the effect. And this is not just for this eye cream in particular but for any eye cream you use. If you do want to invest in an eye cream check out Bobbi Brown, Clinique and Michael Todd Organics.

And of course last but not least my moisturizer. I use the Clean and Clear Hydrating Gel Moisturizer all over my face. I have done a review on this too so check out the post. This is moisturizing and cooling on the skin. So after a long day this is definitely a lifesaver. It is also a dupe for the Clinique Gel Moisturizer which is around $30 or so.

Other products I use:

Lips: Lips are also very important to make sure to take care of. I usually exfoliate my lips twice a week with a mixture of honey, sea salt, sugar, and lemon juice. I put this mixture on and rub my lips together. This helps get rid of any dead skin and keeps my lips moisturized and smooth. This also helps with smoother application of lip balms and other lip products. If you don't want to use this exfoliater you can just scrub your lips with your toothbrush.

And of course don't forget to moisturize your lips with a lip balm. My current favorite one is Dior's Creme de Rose.  This is a pretty pricey lip balm and it is not something I buy a lot. A good drugstore one is Aquafor Lip Repair

Skin: Along with my skincare routine I do use a few other things here and there. One of them is an exfoliater. The one I'm currently using and loving is the Neutrogena Deep Clean Long Last Shine Control Cleanser/Mask. I personally don't really need the shine control aspect but it has beads in it that are the perfect size for exfoliating that are not too harsh on the skin. Plus it smells amazing. You can also use this as a daily cleanser and it doubles up as a mask. This is really great for oily skin.

I also like to use masks when I have the chance usually once or twice a week. Masks can help with a number of things for your skin like brightening, tightening, moisturizing, anti-aging and so forth. They are packed with more concentrated ingredients that really soak into the skin. They are a big staple in Asian skincare. Here are some of my favorites and current ones I am using.

My Beauty Diary Face Masks- This is an Asian brand and is a bit difficult to get here in the States. Amazon has a few types on stock and sometimes these can be found at Asian Markets.

Acne: My skin has cleared up in the last few years so I no longer use any sort of acne treatments and skin products however I do occasionally still get breakouts here and there especially with climate changes and stress. If I do have a breakout I will use Mario Badescu's Drying Lotion. All you do is dip a cotton Q-Tip into it and put it directly on the breakout. You will look scary with this on but leave it overnight and it will dry up the pimple and reduce any redness and size. It is one of my holy grail products. I only use this when my breakout first starts afterwards if my breakout still hasn't completely gone away I just rub some Clean and Clear Persa Gel. This stuff contains 10% benzoyl peroxide so it is a bit strong. I would recommend starting out with products that contain salicylic acid and then move up to something like benzoyl peroxide.

Body: When it comes to skin it is not only your face that you need to take care of but also your body. For this season I been using body butters. Body butters are a lot thicker and creamier than normal body lotions and they also last longer on the skin.

Pacifica Body Butters are some of the best. They come in many different scents and are made of natural ingredients. Plus they are probably one of the most affordable body butters on the market today. I'm currently using the one in Sandalwood. You can find these at Target, Fresh Market, and Whole Foods nationwide.
